Honeycomb wrapping paper utilizes a principle known as geometric moment of inertia. This principle describes an object's resistance to rotational acceleration. The honeycomb design creates a series of interconnected cells that distribute impact forces across the entire structure, minimizing stress on individual points and absorbing shock during shipment.

Honeycomb wrapping paper can be reused multiple times as long as it remains structurally sound. However, excessive tearing, punctures, or crushing can compromise its protective capabilities. For optimal reusability, it's recommended to store unused honeycomb paper in a cool, dry place to prevent degradation.

FSC mix certification ensures that the kraft paper used in honeycomb wrapping paper is made with a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC-controlled wood. While controlled wood doesn’t come from FSC-certified forests, it mitigates the risk of the material originating from unacceptable sources. The honeycomb paper's composition also makes it recyclable in most curbside recycling programs, further minimizing its environmental footprint.

Studies have shown that honeycomb wrapping paper can achieve similar or even superior levels of protection compared to bubble wrap. A 2021 research paper published in the Journal of Packaging Technology compared the effectiveness of various cushioning materials, including honeycomb paper and bubble wrap. The results demonstrated that honeycomb paper performed equally well in protecting fragile items against vibrational damage.
